An unprovoked attack has left the Center City community shaken after an 87-year-old man was punched in the head and knocked to the ground.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 24th, around 3:00 PM on Arch Street between 10th and 11th Streets.

According to Philadelphia Police, the senior citizen was simply trying to enter a building when he encountered a young male.

The victim politely asked the male to move aside so he could pass.

In a shocking display of violence, the young man responded by punching the elderly gentleman with enough force to knock him to the sidewalk.

The Philadelphia Police Department is currently seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect.

Police describe him as a young male, possibly school-aged, who was last seen wearing a dark New Balance t-shirt, dark pants, and gray sneakers.

This is a despicable act of violence against a vulnerable member of our community,” said a PPD spokesperson. “We urge anyone with information about this suspect to come forward immediately.”

The victim of the attack sustained an abrasion on his face but thankfully no serious injuries were reported. However, the incident has understandably caused fear and outrage among residents.

9 months ago, Florida police arrested a suspect who punched and killed an 87-year old man.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to contact the Philadelphia Police Department
